Our barbeque turned out great and as the crowd was leaving and I walked in our backyard to make sure nothing was left behind, I spotted two baby kittens playing under my hubby's boat. I didn't want to frighten them off so I started talking to them and the mother just sat and watched while the kittens started in my direction. Since my daughter was on the other side of the fence I yelled for her to come take a look and instead of Debi, Steve marched in and frightened the kittens so they stopped advancing and started playing with each other instead.
I took a step toward them and noticed another kitten in the background the same age and they didn't run away like the ones we found last year.
Since there was nothing I could do tonight and everyone will be back tomorrow, I left a plate of ferret food for them and will try to get them tomorrow. We already have homes for two of them and a possible home for the third.

My daughter Debi and daughter-in-law Vickie showed up early today and marched in the backyard to see what these kittens looked like. Ivy was the one who spotted them first and the girls just walked over, picked them up and brought them inside for their first bath.
I didn't find any fleas on them but their bathwater turned almost black from the dirt on these babies.
My daughter Debi fell in love with the little boy, there's 2 females and one male, and ran him over to the vet they have at our Petco on the corner.
The vet said they were around 5 or 6 weeks old and are getting their first deworming pill tonight.
The little boy is named Finder, the female with the most white on her is named Prim, short for Prima Donna and the runt with the white paws is called Mittens. All kittens now have homes.

Dar I think we've just been lucky finding homes since we all deal everyday with lots of people and just about all of them are animal lovers.
I will let you know in 9 more days who the new mommy's or daddy's are of these precious babies. This will be the day they leave for their new homes and there's already two, possibly three fighting over the one I've been calling Mittens.
All three are using the litter box without a mistake and when one starts to bury it's poops the other two go running to help.
They are on canned kittenfood and devour every last drop. I tried them on it this morning to see if they would eat anything with chunks and it sounded like the jungle with all three growling at each other trying to empty the bowl before the other's had their share.
I have a feeling these little guys knew what it was like to be hungry, thank goodness they won't have to worry about food anymore.
My daughter petted each one when they had lunch to make sure they wouldn't try to scratch when food was around and they were fine. Only one growled at the other kittens when they first started eating and that only lasted a short time. They completely ignored the hand petting them and just concentrated on lunch.

Geez, I wish I could just stumble onto a litter of kittens LOL.

My cousin had a 5 week old kitten wander into her yard and claim her. They had Kumari the kitten for a week, no one came looking for her....then the neighbors from down the street showed up (this 5 week old kitten wandered almost a full block away from home) and took it refusing to even let the 4 kids PAY for the kitten but offered them one of the others of the litter. A week later the kitten came back. In order to make it all legal, they surrendered Kumari to a local shelter, left her there for a week then went back and adopted her.

Three days later little Kumari was lethargic and dehydrated. They took her to the vet and found out that she had parvo AND leukemia. She lived for 5 days before she gave in and died. And my cousin got a refund from the shelter, and got the costs of taking her adult cat Anubis to the vet to have him checked because they discovered this poor little kitten was infected while she was in the shelter.

Needless to say her 4 kids are heartbroken.

Still wish I could stumble on a litter of kittens like that. I've got cats living in my garage but apparently they're all fixed around here. And Eric won't let me feed any of them LOL. When we have our own house (hopefully soon) I think I'm going to get a couple of new kitties. Sounds good to me! LOL.
