Since this morning my Petit Ours is so famous B-)
My photography won an award but of course all the credits belong to the model :D

I am really happy because with all the bad publicity ferrets can sadly have sometimes, today it is an opportunity to show to people another story.

Here is the link to the photo page, where you can read all the things and comments from people :

I believe it is the first time a ferret is the principal subject to won a recognition in the artistic world  ;)

I just add my little basic FAQ in the comment of Bear photo in the hope of more education ;)

I hope you will enjoy :x

Thank you Carol

Oh Dar Jaffa is growing fast I am so happy to hear he is doing well smiley4

Nahum and Petit Ours are fine. Nahum is getting more old , but he is still fine. He will be 7 in January.

Both Nahum and Petit Ours have their Deslorelin implant since June. It seems to work well. I am glad they don't have any more this painful shot of Lupron in their back leg. They have a lot of suffer from that, and have had a lot of stress. That is a relieve for everybody, mommy inclued ;)

Thank you for your nice words and concern.

Hahaha, me too I wonder what he is thinking ;O) Only Petit Ours knows

Why on earth would your vet give the Lupron shot in your ferret's leg?
My vets have always given it between the shoulders where you would give a sub-q and it worked fine.
Marie-Agnes aren't you in Canada like Dar24?
Is the Deslorelin implants available up there or were you just fortunate that your vet was able to obtain some?
What is the price difference between the Deslorelin and Lupron?
The reason I ask is because Dar24 has an adrenal ferret and it might be better for her to use the implants if her vet can get them.

The vet made the injection in their poor little legs, because she said it must be intramuscular injection.
I have seen another vet for the Deslorelin implant, I can t remember the price exactely. 300$perhaps. I am at my mom place, right now and I don't have the bill with me. Tomorrow I will have it.
And the implant is good for 12 months.
Lupron cost to me 300 $ each months! It was a montly injection.
The Dr who makes the implant is Dr Daren Auger at Ottawa

Our Lupron for the monthly depot costs between $55.00 and $70.00 depending on which vet you use. I can't imagine paying $300.00 a month for Lupron.smiley13
I'm glad you decided to switch vets, there was no need to give the Lupron where she did.

Oh well I didn't switch  vet. I just see the other vet for the Deslorelin Implant.
Veterinary in my area cost a lot.
Yes My Lupron visits were so expensive !!! Finally at the end I have order my lupron directly to my human pharmacy with the vet paper. It was something as 370 $ but it was good for 4 months and for my 2 boys :)
The montly depot was the 500mg dosage, that can explain why it was so expensive.

I am so very frustrated about vets ... My babies had the best vet ever until last January but she left the clinic to continue her studies for the environmental area ...  I am still at the same clinic but not the same Dr :(
But at least the new dr contacted Dr Auger for the implant. I wanted the implant for them and she was not able to get it so ...

Dr Auger said to me that he will not take my babies as new patients and that I must to continue to go at my clinic.
But he will take them for their new implants next year and for any problem about the implant.
So it is Dr implant :)

I pay $106 for a 3 month depot here where I live.. It lasts about 6 months.. And yes Carol and Yukka it is given in the back hip area.. All the boosters given to all five of my ferrets have been given there.. Kahlua fortunately has no problem with the shot.. She barely notices it... Sorry to hear your boys have such a hard time Yukka..

Please post all the info you have on deslorelin implant and I will send it to my vet.. I am not sure if it is available everywhere or just at a few vets for testing..

Glad to hear they are doing well on the implant Yukka..

Sorry I am late to answer.

No Deslorelin implant it is not available everywhere, it is still on testing, not yet approved in US nor in Canada.
Your vet can ask to the government all the forms for to get the implants. So it is possible to get them but vets need to work on those papers.

As I don't know exactly what you want to give to your vet, I suggest you to go on the archives of the Ferret health group. All the last and accurate info are there :

If you just go to
http://ferrethealth .org/archive/
and search for messages with the word deslorelin
in the body/content and leave the other search boxes blank you will get all the info on
that topic. Just click open the messages that interest you.

If you need more infos, please tell me
