Be careful with those stashes to avoid accidental deaths

Here are just a few things that ferrets have stashed and then later
accidently killed themselves with:

raisins (too many for kidneys)

plastic gloves, erasers, potatoes, dried bananas, carrots, anything
rubber or latex, synthetic cloth, plastic food wrappers, pencil
erasers, and more (fatal intestinal blockages)

old bones, wood, pieces of baskets, some types of plastic including
some plastic gloves (fatal perforations from sharp things or ones
which become sharp or brittle with age or when exposed to digestive
products -- yes, someone I know had one eat part of a glove used fo
some hairdressing procedures and the pieces turned into sharp little
spirals)

gum or other products with xylitol (including some lip cosmetic
products), nail cosmetics, medications, pieces of some plants and at
this time of year several seasonal flowering plants people often get,
cleaning products, cocoa or other dark chocolate, cigarette stubs
(poisoning -- see resources like
http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/ )

Stashes are humorous until the ferrets get the wrong things and then
they can be deadly.

Also look out for dental floss (included used floss), thread, tinsel,
string etc. As the intestine moves those tend to get stuck and then
they cut right through the intestines just like people sometimes use
dental floss to cleanly cut cakes.
