I am not a vet and the long time ferret owners, shelters and rescues in this group are going by experience, not the medical training your vet has.
Whenever there is a question, your vet should be the first person you turn to. The only way to discover what your ferret's problem is would be the tests that are sent to the lab by your vet.
Many things have the same symptoms and without seeing your ferret and having the lab results at hand all we can do is guess.
In any emergency, please get your ferret to the vet as soon as possible.
